You don’t have to go to Hawaii to get beer that tastes like it comes from the Pacific. You can actually get it in Northern VA! That’s the mission statement of Chantilly, VA’s Ono Brewing.
Ono Brewing: The Essentials
- 4520 Daly Dr Suite 102, Chantilly, VA 20151
Tues 3pm-6pm, Wed/Thurs 3pm-9pm, Fri/Sat 12pm-10pm, Sun 12pm-6pm
Owners Scott and Cyndi Hoffman have deep ties to Hawaii, having lived there for years and with family from there. And so when they opened a brewery in NoVa, it made sense to bring a little bit of that with them. Ono means “tasty” in Hawaiian, and that, plus the laid back style of islands really comes through when you go to Ono. The first thing you may notice? There are no bartenders! Walk in, open a tab, and get a card. These cards activate the taps, and let you pour your own beer! Know exactly what you want? That easy! Want to try a little bit of everything? Just as easy? Want to try and make some exciting hybrids? You can do that too!
Brews to Choose
Because it was so easy to do so, I tried a little bit of everything. My favorites were:
- Paradise Pineapple IPA
- Pau Hana IPA (an easy drinking IPA, the name comes from the Hawaiian for relax)
- Haole (a white ale infused with cherry)
- Beach Bum (a wheat ale)
While You Are in Town… Mustang Sally
- Tuesday – Thursday: 3:00-9:00 PM
Friday: 3:00-10:00 PM
Saturday: 12:00-10:00 PM
Sunday: 12:00-6:00 PM
- 14140 Parke Long Ct A-C, Chantilly, VA 20151
Ono isn’t the only brewery worth visiting in Chantilly! While in town, be sure to visit Mustang Sally’s! It’s right down the street. MSB is my kind of brewery: big open space, with TVs for sports but not enough that it overwhelms the place, and lots to do for the whole family, including indoor cornhole.
Brews to Choose
You can get a flight of 4 or 5 – get 5 because there will be 5 beers worth trying.
- One Way Out – a rare Peach IPA
- Their solid Belgian Strong Golden Ale
- Their Imperial Stout
- So Little Time IPA
Until next time, Best Brews!
