Ahoy and Happy Talk Like a Pirate Day!
Every year on September 19th since the dawn of time (ok, 2002), folks around the world put on an eye-patch, make bad pirate puns (How much does pirate corn cost? About a buck an ear!), and pretend to be like the buccaneers of yore! Here are five beers you should consider if you are going “Full Pirate” today!
1. Peg Leg Imperial Stout
Heavy Seas, Baltimore MD
If you are going to be a scalawag today, ye best be drinking something from Baltimore’s Heavy Seas. Their stout is a personal fave but ye can always go with the Loose Cannon IPA or the Powder Monkey Pale if ye want something lighter. Heavy Seas has locations in both Baltimore and Arlington, so check them out today or walk the plank!
2. Piraat Ale
Brouwerij Van Steenberge (Ertvelde, Belgium)
This 10.5% Belgian Strong Golden Ale will have ye singing sea shanties in no time.
3. Seaquench Ale
Dogfish Head (Milton, DE)
This session sour is not specifically pirate-related but it is brewed with lime juice, lime peel, and black limes, and so it’ll keep ye from gettin’ scurvy!
4. Three Sheets Rum Barrel Aged Victory At Sea
Ballast Point (San Diego, CA)
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum barrel aged ale! Ye will probably have to head to the West Coast for this adjective-loving imperial porter, as it doesn’t actually come in bottles and is only available on draft. These guys know how to do nautical themed beverages!
5. Long John Pilsner
Pirate Republic Brewing, (Nassau, Bahamas)
What’s a pirate beer list without at least one brew from the Caribbean? If yer idea of bein’ a pirate centers mostly on getting some rays and listening to Jimmy Buffett, than this pilsner from the only craft brewery in the Bahamas is probably fer you. Other options include the Black Beer’d Stout, and the Golden Haze of Piracy.
What other sorts of piratical beers arrrrrr ye drinking today? Let me know!
